Many genealogies say he died in the Oyster River Massacre in 1694. He didn’t, but the toll on his family was horrible. Daughter Sarah, son John Jr, daughter-in-law Elizabeth, grandson James and grandson Samuel all killed, two to four grandchildren carried off to Canada, one to live for fifty years as a French nun. Another son and grandson were killed by Indians in 1720 and 1724.1603
