Nine houses in Taunton were designated "garrison houses" where settlers were to congregate in case of an attack. An alarm was sent out and Edward Babbitt was the first casualty. He was attacked by Indians and killed on 26 June 1675. The next day the Indians attacked John Tisdale's place, killing John and burning his house and the house of James Walker, his neighbor and brother-in-law. 670
