Listed as a bowman/billman on the Militia Muster Roll of Suffolk, England in the reign of Henry VIII (1535)1130

Billmen were part of the local infantry, expert in the use of the weapon called a bill, a long staff terminating in a hook-shaped blade usually with pikes at the back and top. Harness, in this context, referred to armor. A sheaf of arrows consisted of a bundle or quiver of 24 arrows.1811
