Notes for Richard Carew
Served in KIng Henry IV’s diplomatice missions to Poland, Sweden and France. He was High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1586. In 1589, he was elected a member of the college of antiquaries, and about that time he made an historical survey fo his native county that was later printed.
1771He was known as “a religious, ingenious man, learned, eloquent, liberal, stout, honest, and well skilled in several languages - and a most excellecnt manager of bees in Cornwall.” It was said that he “not only lived up to the dignity of his ancestors, bit excelled them all in the ornaments of virtue.”
