He was one of the Knights of the Shire for Cornwall in 1641. “But unhapplily joining with Oliver Cromwell, in his measures, was advanced by him, but finding his error, and that all their schemes tended to anarchy and confusion, he was for leaving the rebels, and doing all in his power to advance his Majesty’s interest; upon which he was seized, and tried at a court martial at Guildhall 1644, for adhering to the King , and betreaying his trust.”1770
