Notes for Avis Chapman/Chepman
There is some last name confusion. US and International Marriages 1560-1900 lists the marriage of William Reade in 1635 with Avis Deacon and Avis Chapman. Avis Deacon left England at the same time as another William Reade (called “of Boston”). But her boat was bound for Virginia, not New England. The record says that she and her brother - both 19 years old - were “to be transported” to Virginia.
Notes for William (Spouse 1)
Arrived in America around 1650.1725 Made a Freeman 2 Sept 1653.

There was a William Reade who was elected a "Townsman" (selectman) at Weymouth, 26 Nov. 1651, The above-named William Reed was then ineligible and could not have been the man who was elected townsman.1726 (Had to be a member of a church and a Freeman to be eligible.)

As a matter of fact there was another William Reade who preceded him, coming with his wife Susan and two children from this same Somersetshire in 1635 with the Rev. Joseph Hull and a large company of emigrants who settled in Weymouth, New England. Much confusion has resulted in genealogical research from the mixing of the records concerning these two Williams. But certain it is, that the William of Mr. Hull's company removed from Weymouth to Boston about the year 1646.1727

A lot of genealogies claim that he sailed on the Assurance (1635) with Avis Deacon and her brother. That William Read was “transported to Virginia” and apparently stayed there.1728
