The Lords were a family of Norman descent. It is thought that the name was originally La Vorde or De La Vorde. Called the "marcher barons", they were granted small estates along the borders of Wales. Their purpose there was to help control the Welsh border.1631

His crest was “a gawnlet Ar. holding a sawlter vert.”1632
