Evidence suggests this is Harper's father. He co-signed for Harper's land purchase in 1860. And there is boy Harper’s age in the family in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. Moses is listed as having a total of 6 sons and 2 daughters on those censuses.
Found in 2015: a letter from Theasa to her daughter proves Harper was Moses’s son.
46820 June 1820, he bought land from Caleb Allen (land bordered property owned by Holway Allen)
1480He was known as Moses Allen of Fairfield when he bought 60 acres in Bloomfield, ME from James Allen on 7 February 1827.
1480He was known as Moses Allen of St. Albans when he sold land in Bloomfield on 16 October 1832.
1480He took his family to Ohio on a priarie schooner. They lost their oldest son on the way. And found “a wide level country, mud snakes and malaria shaking palsy, as it was called, contrasted with the green hills, the pebbly shores, the clear cool water, the old associations so far in the look backward were too tempting to resist and they retraced the voyage home.”
1481He brought his family to Presque Isle, Aroostook Cty, Maine in 1842 and built his log cabin east of the Center line on the road now leading to Easton.
464Obituary: Mr. Moses Allen, an old and respected resident of this town, died suddenly on Wednesday morning last, at the advanced age of 75 years. He was one of the first settlers of this town, has been one of our worthiest and most esteemed citizens, and his death cast a gloom over the hearts of his acquaintances. He had been in a more than usual feeble health for a few days, but on the morning of his death, thought himself better, brought in some wood for the fire, and whilst putting it in the store fell back and instantly died.
