Notes for Lenora H. Gammon
Leonora was living with Albert and Celia in 1910.1402
“... My Great Aunt Nonie (sister of my grandmother) was badly crippled with arthritis. She was cared for by my grandmother and a very lovely woman that everyone called Aunt Lizzie (she was not an aunt but a cousin of my grandfather). Great Aunt Nonie was unmarried and had no family. To show her appreciation for all that my grandmother and Aunt Lizzie had done for her she both each of them a diamond right, the larger one for my grandmother (which your Aunt Nonie has) and the smaller size (which you have) for Aunt Lizzie. Both stones were equal in value, but she gave the larger size to her sister.
“… Aunt Lizzie was described as "lovely" - a very fastidious and gracious person. Mostly I remember my father talking about her. He loved her very much and spoke about her often.
“Great Aunt Nonie died in 1917, so I didn't know her, But like Aunt Lizzie, my father was very fond of her. I knew that she had a chronic illness and was considered to be a very courageous woman, but I now learned that it was arthritis and that she was actually crippled. When my father was very small he had a long, serious illness himself and she had nursed him through those years before her own condition developed, so they were especially close. Your Aunt Nonie was named for her. “ (Hariett Child’s letter dated 23 Nov 1971)
