Hal from the Welsh, signifying a moor, hayle, a salt-water river. The Hales of Kent have existed in that locality since the reign of Edward III. They were numerous in Hertfordshire early in the thirteenth century.1341

He was made a freeman on 14 May 1634 at Charlestown, Suffolk, MA. 867

He was a Charlestown selectman in 1635/6-1637/8. He was also a Lotlayer in 1637-1638. During the 1650's he was called on frequently by the Colony to lay out lands or assist in settling disputes over land. He was a Sergeant by 1652 and an Ensign by 1658.867
