Notes for John Vinson
In the Records and files of the Quarterly Courts of Essex County, MA (Vol 8 p 295): “John dying intestate, his father William Vison of Gloster was appointed administratior of the estate.”
His father’s will (written 1684) was written when he was still hoping that his last son, John, had not been lost at sea. He left everything to his wife Rachel for her life, stipulating that she would sell part of the lands and cattle if she found herself in need. After Rachel’s death, “in Case” his son John “be living and returne home agayne…” he made provision for his inheritance.
1248His father died in 1690, having not changed his will. He obviously was still hoping his son would return. I assume the whole ship was lost at sea. Otherwise there would have been a report of what happened and they would have had closure.
