On 11 April 1637 Henry Dow of Ormesby, husbandman, aged 29, and Joan his wife, 30, with four children and a servant, Anne Maning, 17 were examined at Ipswich and given permission to emigrate to New England. Exactly when they sailed is not known, but the four children evidently included a hitherto unknown third son, James, and also Henry's stepson, Thomas Nudd. 791

He was made a freeman on 2 May 1638.792

Between 1651 and 1659 he was a selectman, deputy from Hampton to the General Court of Massachusetts for two years and appointed with two others to examine and record all land grants and highways. This last work was interupted by his death. 781
