On 25 March 1762, he enlisted in Lt. Col. Isreal Putnam's Second Company, of the First Regiment of Connecticut Troops, raised for the attack on Cuba during he French and Indian War. He served as a Captian. The seige of Havana was successful, and the city fell in July 1762. However, many of the troops, including Joseph, contracted yellow fever.1 Capt. Joseph Edgerton died on Thursday, 2 September 1762 in Havana, Cuba, at age 65 years, 7 months and 16 days from yellow fever.573
