“The Henckel family had its origins in Daudenzell, Germany. John Justus Henckel, Polly's father, accompanied his parents to Pennsylvania in 1717. He was the son of the Rev. Anthony Jacob Henckel, an Evangelical Lutheran minister from the German Palatinate, and his wife Maria Elizabeth (Dentzer) Henckel. John Justis Henckel later moved to North Carolina, but because of aggressive Indians moved again to Pendleton County, Va., and bought land in 1760.”181
