Elias Child wrote that in 1771 "he moved to Maine with the family of Mr. David Marshall of Massachusetts and settled in what was then called Sudbury, Canada, now Bethel, Maine. Attacked by the Indians, the inhabitants fled. The family relocated in Minot, Maine. There Mr. Child married, then moved to Livermore, Maine, where he settled on a farm." But I could find no other evidence to support that. (Mrs. Marshall's own testimony of the events of the Indian raid, compared with the births of their own children, doesn't leave room for William to have been with them at the time.)
78The 1790 Waltham, MA census indicates that he was in Abijah's home at that time.,
79he lived in Livermore,ME. "He kept a tavern at Brettun's Mills, Livermore in the days of Sawtelle's Stage Line." (Turner's History of the Town of Peru)
