MCS (multiple chemical sensitivities)

What is it?

“Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is a chronic, physical illness affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. It causes sufferers to have allergic-type reactions to very low levels of chemicals in everyday products. Put simply the immune and detoxification systems stop working properly and the body cannot process toxins efficiently.” (MCS aware)

I personally have asthmatic reactions and migraines from perfumes, cleaning fumes, and other “fumes”.

Cosmetics I use:

Signature Minerals
Colorescience foundation

Cosmetic Recipes I use:

Honey Face Wash
1/2 cup raw honey
1/4 cup aloe vera gel
Add to a pump jar and shake to combine.

My toner: Green Tea and Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp loose green tea / 1 tea bag of green tea
1 cup of distilled water or filtered water
1 tsp of raw Apple cider vinegar (with the mother)

Directions
1. First prepare your green tea by bringing 1 cup of distilled water to a boil. Steep your tea bag (or add your loose tea leaves) for 5 minutes. When the time is up, remove the tea bag and allow the green tea to cool off completely.
2. Pour 1 tsp of Apple cider vinegar into a glass bottle or spray bottle. Top up this up with the cooled green tea. Note: Make sure your green tea is completely cooled down before you do this.
3. Now just shake up your bottle and you’re green tea apple cider vinegar toner is ready to use.

My Dandruff Shampoo
Add 2 crushed aspirin to the shampoo in your hand. Leave the shampoo on your head for 2 minutes. Rinse and shampoo again – to be sure that the aspirin is out of your hair. Works with your favorite shampoo. I add this to NonScents shampoo.

NOTE: 2 aspirin = 1/4 tsp. crushed. I crush a whole bottle of 325mg aspirin at once and then I have it ready for both of these recipes.

My Lotion
In measuring cup, heat to no more than 110 degrees: 1 1⁄2 c + 1 Tb distilled water

In the saucepan, combine and heat to 100 degrees:
1 Tb Emulsifying Wax (or Skin Conditioner) 2 Tb Stearic Acid
1 Tb Glycerin
2 Tb. Mineral oil and 1 Tb. sesame oil and 1 Tb Aquapor  (or 1/4 c + 1 Tb oil)

(The oils will continue to heat and it shouldn’t go over 110 degrees)

Pour water into oil mixture. Set the pan in a bowl of ice water and use a the stick mixer to combine then use a plastic fork to stir it until it comes to room temperature and thickens. Finish with the stick mixer again.

Use a funnel and strainer to pour into a 16 oz bottle.

Another toner I used in the past: Apple Cider and Aspirin Toner (exfoliates)
Yield: Approximately one month of daily applications
1/2 ounce organic apple cider vinegar 1 Tb
3 ounces mineral water 6 Tb (3/8 c.)
4-5 plain aspirin tablets, uncoated 1/2 tsp

Instructions:
Dilute 1/2 ounce organic apple cider vinegar with 4 oz of mineral water.
Use pestle and mortar to crush aspirin tablets.
Add aspirin tablet mixture to water and vinegar mix.
Apply toner sparingly to areas with acne, rough skin or enlarged pores.

The solution will stay fresh for one month in the refrigerator. (I put a week’s worth in a small container in the bathroom and the rest stays in the frig.)
