Back to Muff 'nme
Muffy has seen a lot of Star Trek over the years. I don't think she's missed an episode. And she has learned a lot. She does a perfect imitation of Red Alert.
Her sensors are always on full sweep. We can get animated about the country, the world, the traffic, anything. As soon as she detects voice and animation levels outside normal parameters she runs from wherever she is and takes charge. She paces back and forth with a very concerned look on her little furry face. “Meow.”“Meow.” “Meow.” “Meow.” “Meow.” It sounds just like the monotone Red Alert sound. And it just keeps going until we notice her.
It works. We stop and end up laughing at her antics. Then she insists on being petted until there is no chance of recurring danger levels.
And she's right. Those feelings and the angry voice that goes along with them aren't healthy. They don't accomplish anything. They certainly don't make me a better person.
God tells me to react very differently. If I am concerned about anything, I should bring those concerns to Him. He cares for me. He loves me. And He's not surprised by anything that happens. Instead of fussing and fuming, I need to go to Him—my source of strength, peace and wisdom.
He has a plan and nothing is outside of it—not the problem—not even the furry purrson who gets my attention!
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. (James 1:19-20)
You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (Col 3:7-10)
Muffy did the only thing she knew to do. But I am being made like my Father. I can seek His help and trust in His Spirit's guidance. I have all the resources of heaven waiting to support me when I seek to reflect Jesus Christ in a situation.
I can act on instinct or stop and choose another way. I can wear the same old stuff or put on a new self. It all hinges on choice.
